Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking political figure commented the attack rendered him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
