Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the city.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the actions of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and fled to a secure base in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could help the team enter locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Seekers and Planners tables.

Viewers can anticipate learning which adventurers will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
