The highly-awaited Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been widespread.
The first season introduces a diverse group of characters living within the afterlife, sets them at odds accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The community's expectations for the new season vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "However I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — especially in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a couple people make a prediction grid about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
